Governor Janet Mills Visits Sanford Regional Technical Center
Maine's workforce of tomorrow was on full display Wednesday, September 10, at Sanford Regional Technical Center, where Governor Janet Mills witnessed students building the skills that will shape their futures.
For SRTC Director Matt Petermann, having the Governor visit was "an extraordinary opportunity to showcase the transformative work we do every single day.”
The handshakes started before Governor Janet Mills even entered the building. Law Enforcement students lined up by the student gardens at Sanford Regional Technical Center Wednesday morning, each introducing themselves to Maine's governor.
The Governor's visit was also covered by multiple media outlets. Read the stories below to check out the coverage and see our SRTC students in action!

Sanford High Marching Band Ready for Another Strong Season

Sanford High School's marching band is positioned for another standout season. The program, which has nearly 60 members, continues to set the standard in Maine's marching band community.
Their competition season includes five events leading up to state finals. They open their season at Biddeford High School on September 13, followed by their out-of-state challenge at UMass Amherst on September 27. The schedule continues with competitions at South Portland (October 4) and Wells High School (October 18) before culminating with the Maine Marching Band Finals at Sanford High School on October 25.
Beyond state competitions, they continue to challenge themselves with their return trip to UMass Amherst. This year's competition will offer an added benefit for the percussion section, with specialized instruction from renowned educators Tom Hannum and Ian Hale.
There's added enthusiasm for returning students about going back to a place where they found success. "We have one in Amherst at UMass, and we got first there last year, so we're really excited," said senior Lily Gillis. Once again, Sanford has earned the honor of hosting the Maine Marching Band Finals, marking the fourth consecutive year they've welcomed schools to their home turf.
Alumni Stadium Hosts Ticket Booth Dedication Night
The Sanford Alumni Association dedicated several major improvements to Alumni Stadium on Friday, September 12, highlighting years of collaborative effort between the school district, technical center students, and local businesses.
"From the bottom of our hearts, the Sanford Alumni Association truly appreciates each and every one of you," Alumni Association President Shane O'Connell told the gathered crowd, recognizing the extensive community support that made the projects possible.
The ceremony marked the completion of what O'Connell described as an eight-year journey of stadium improvements, with the ticket booth representing the final project in a series that included fencing, sound system upgrades, bathrooms, pavement projects, concourse work, and picnic tables.
Assistant Principal Aaron Tremblay, who also serves on the alumni board, opened the ceremony by praising the collaborative spirit that made the improvements possible.
"Obviously a major thank you to the Alumni Association for always answering the phone call, and I don't think they've said no yet for anything that we've asked for," Tremblay said.

See Something Say Something
As a school system, we are committed to creating and sustaining a comprehensive, coordinated effort to maintain the overall safety and well-being of our students, educators and administrators. Therefore we utilize the “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” (SS-ARS), a system fully funded by the national nonprofit Sandy Hook Promise. The SS-ARS allows youth and adults to securely submit anonymous safety concerns – anytime, from anywhere – to help identify and intervene upon at-risk individuals before they hurt themselves or others. The system enables school administrators and law enforcement (if needed) to create effective interventions and to help prevent violence, suicide, bullying, self-harm and other forms of threatening behavior.
How to submit a tip to the Say Something program:
  1. Say Something website (SaySomething.net)
  1. Say Something mobile app (App Store | Google Play)
  1. Say Something hotline (1-844-5-SAY NOW | 1-844-572-9669)

Attendance Awareness Month
Governor Janet Mills has proclaimed September as School Attendance Awareness Month in Maine, and we are excited to join schools across our state in celebrating the importance of being in school every day. This year's campaign slogan is "Rooted in Learning, Growing Every Day: Be Pine Tree Present!" This reminds us that just like Maine's pine trees grow strong with deep roots, your child grows stronger when they are present and learning every day.
As families, you can support great attendance by making school a priority through regular bedtime and morning routines, preparing clothes and backpacks the night before, and keeping your family healthy with daily breakfast, adequate sleep (9-11 hours for school-age children), and frequent handwashing.
